Service alert: Olympic View Transfer Station closed Thurs., Nov. 28 through Sun., Dec. 1, 2024 due to unplanned compactor outage
Olympic View Transfer Station will be closed from Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1 due to an unplanned compactor outage.
The transfer station typically closes for one day on Thanksgiving, but this year the closure will be extended through the weekend due to a mechanical and software issue with the facility's sole garbage compactor. The tipping floor is currently at 100% capacity, and we cannot accept any more waste until the compactor is repaired and the floor is partially cleared.
At this time, we expect to reopen the facility on Monday, December 2, 2024.
Kitsap County has acquired a second garbage compactor that will be installed in 2025. This will allow the facility to process waste faster and provides a backup in the event of future outages.
We’ll continue to provide updates as needed, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. You can find updates at:
Other services are not impacted
This issue is not expected to impact waste collection services provided by WM, Bainbridge Disposal, and the City of Poulsbo.
The Recycling and Garbage Facilities will remain open on their normal schedules. These facilities are closed on Thanksgiving. Please note that these smaller facilities charge by volume. They are not designed to accept large loads of waste, and large loads will be significantly more expensive at these facilities.
Mason and Pierce County residents
Mason County residents should use the garbage disposal facility in Belfair, and Pierce County residents should use Purdy Transfer Station.
