John,

This week, every Montanan registered to vote received a ballot in the mail. But far too many Montanans aren't registered, making it harder for them to participate in our elections.

That's why our campaign announced a plan to implement Automatic Voter Registration on Day One.

Registering to vote should be easy and your registration should be updated automatically if you move. But for too many Montanans, it isn’t.

The Attorney General can fix both these problems now.

The Attorney General oversees the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) and has the authority to integrate an “opt-out” voter registration process for all driver’s licenses or state ID cards. This in known Automatic Voter Registration.

Montanans currently have the option of registering to vote when they get a driver’s license or ID card, but it’s not automatic. As a result, thousands of Montanans miss out on registration to vote or updating their voter information to save time at the polls.

As Attorney General, I will have MVD automatically register voters and transmit them to County Clerks and the Secretary of State.

With this simple change, automatic voter registration will become a reality and increase registered voters in Montana. That’s good for democracy.

Automatic voter registration is a simple fix to allow more Montanans to express their right to vote. But it takes a change in leadership from the past eight years to get the job done. The current Attorney General could make elections better now. He simply chooses not to.

I’m running for Attorney General because Montanans want our elected officials to fight for us again.

We want an Attorney General who will stand up for us and defend our rights, whether it’s in court or at the ballot box.

As your Attorney General, I will never settle for anything less. I humbly ask for your vote.

Supporting the campaign: Raph is currently working full time to support Governor Bullock. With the outbreak of COVID-19, we’ve cancelled all in-person fundraisers and events. But this election is more important than ever, especially with our access to healthcare on the line. If you want to continue to support our efforts to put a fighter for Montana in the Attorney General’s office, you can do so HERE ([link removed]) .

About Raph: Raph Graybill is Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Steve Bullock. A fifth-generation Montanan from Great Falls, Graybill won a Rhodes Scholarship and graduated from Yale Law School. Graybill beat the Trump Administration in court over dark money, protected our public lands from out-of-state developers, and defended Montana's public schools.

The non-partisan
Cook Political Report ([link removed]) rates Graybill as the top Democratic candidate to win back the Attorney General's office this fall.
