My name is Tina Smith, and I’m proud to serve Minnesotans in the U.S. Senate. I’m glad you’re joining our team at this pivotal time: I'm facing re-election in 2020 in a race NBC News has already labeled as one to watch.

In Washington, I’m fighting for the issues Minnesotans are focused on: What are we going to do about the fact that healthcare costs are going up so astronomically? How do we make sure we’re supporting working and middle-class families? Are our kids going to be able to go to a good school, and how will they pay for college? That's where I'm focused.

But at the same time, we can't ignore the facts: Donald Trump only lost Minnesota by one and a half points in 2016 -- and we know Trump and GOP leaders are ready to target our state in 2020. Roll Call recently released their first 2020 Senate ratings, and they say we “could face [a] competitive challenge” next year. There's no doubt about it: We've got a fight on our hands.
