** “Every crisis, actual or impending, needs to be viewed as an opportunity to bring about profound changes in our society. Going beyond protest organizing, visionary organizing begins by creating images and stories of the future that help us imagine and create alternatives to the existing system.” ― Grace Lee Boggs, The Next American Revolution: Sustainable Activism for the Twenty-First Century

We have spent the past few weeks beginning to digest the reality of a second Trump presidency. We know organizations like ours and the projects we support will be targeted. We know our communities are sitting with uncertainty—and the compounding crises of our current moment. We know that the ongoing genocides, impacts of climate collapse, state violence, and the targeting of our LGBTQ+ communities will only continue and intensify, which is why we must root in justice and move in community.

H.R. 9495, the bill being referred to as the “nonprofit killer,” has passed and will hand Trump and his administration the power to effectively shut down any nonprofit by labeling it a “terrorist supporting organization.” The passing of this bill would be disastrous for organizations working towards a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the occupation — creating a chilling effect on nonprofit organizations' engagement in civil discourse. The bill ([link removed]) now advances from the Republican-controlled House to the Senate, where it is likely to pass a Republican-controlled Senate in the new year threatening the nonprofit sector.
We need your support to take action against this bill:
* Write your representative: Protect Civil Society: "Vote “NO” to H.R. 9495 and any corresponding Senate bill. ([link removed])
* Call representatives and make office visits: find your representative here ([link removed]) .
