Happy Thanksgiving, John!
The holidays might be feeling a little different this year – while you might not agree with the views of everyone you’re sharing a meal with, that’s why it's more important than ever to remember what you’re thankful for.
Why don’t I start…
1) My family – my amazing husband and kids remind me everyday what we’re all fighting for.
2) My faith – as a proud Muslim woman my faith grounds me in time when the future seems so uncertain.
3) My ability to show up for my community – I was honored to be elected to represent Durham County and count myself lucky that I get to advocate for my constituents every day.
4) YOU – thank YOU for your support. Without people like you on my team, I KNOW I wouldn’t be where I am today.
As we gather, let us also take a moment to recognize and honor the Indigenous peoples whose lands we inhabit, including the Shakori, Eno, Tuscarora tribes. We acknowledge their connection to this land and their invaluable contributions to the history and culture of our community.
I hope on this day of thanks, you're able to carve out a little space for what you’re thankful for.
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday,
Nida Allam
