High school, college, and graduate students, along with young professionals learned valuable skills in student organizing and advocacy, empowering them to engage with legislators and drive change in their communities.
Two weeks ago, OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates, in partnership with the OCA - Las Vegas chapter, hosted its inaugural Regional Advocacy Summit, aimed at empowering the next generation of community organizers and advocates.

The summit brought together a vibrant mix of high school, college, and graduate students, as well as young professionals, all eager to learn the foundations of student organizing. Through interactive workshops and collaborative activities, attendees explored strategies for building impactful initiatives, fostering collaboration, and advocating for the issues they care about most.
As part of the program, participants honed critical skills essential for a legislative summit, including:
  • How to Conduct a Legislative Visit: Researching issues, preparing talking points, and effectively advocating for yourself and your community.
  • Advocacy Roleplay: Simulating real-world meetings with experts, including policymakers and former elected officials.
  • Leadership Building: Cultivating leadership skills in yourself and others.
  • Honing Communication Skills: Developing effective communication and storytelling techniques through case studies.
A special thank you to Caesars Entertainment for partnering with OCA National on this inspiring event and to the dedicated speakers and mentors who shared their expertise. Together, we are building a stronger pipeline of young leaders ready to champion change in their communities.
