Your browser history is open to the FBI without a warrant. Thank Nancy Pelosi.

John,

If it’s always been your dream to open up your browser history to the entire U.S. government, you’re in luck.

This week, the Senate rejected a proposal to limit Patriot Act spying powers and restore Fourth Amendment protections to your browser history.

Those surveillance powers have been figuratively raised from the dead, after several provisions expired as scheduled in March.

Guess who rammed their revival through the House? Nancy Pelosi.

Would you like to see San Francisco's voice in Congress support civil liberties, rather than give Trump spying powers first claimed by Bush?

Pelosi didn’t raise a word of objection about surveillance, or the continuing history of authorities politicizing surveillance to suppress dissent & democracy.

Having fought the surveillance state for nearly 20 years as an advocate, organizer, and strategist, I'm eager to take my struggle for your rights into Congress.

The Patriot Act has long been a disgrace. For six years, before joining the Electronic Frontier Foundation, I led a national non-profit dedicated to overturning it through grassroots organizing at the state & local level around the country. San Francisco passed a local resolution supported by the Bill of Rights Defense Committee in 2003.

It took 20 years to finally have a debate in Congress, only for most media sources to ignore it entirely.

My initial interest in replacing Pelosi was driven by her longstanding support for executive secrecy, military-industrial corruption, and authoritarian surveillance powers. Do you want a voice in Washington who stands with you, or with the NSA?

Privacy is a human right for good reason. It's more than the interest in not being seen.

I’m running to defend everyone who could be silenced by surveillance: communities of color, women, my LGBTQ neighbors, unhoused folks, students and young people.

They—and our democracy—are ultimately at risk.

The Patriot Act was passed almost 20 years ago—with Nancy Pelosi's disturbing support—without debate, or even time for most legislators to read the bill. Americans were outraged even then, before some grew less alarmed over time.

Our institutions were designed to check & balance potential tyranny. But now, the Supreme Court is stacked with open partisans, including a Bush torture lawyer. We have a criminal president in the White House with no respect for the rule of law or human decency.

And we have congressional leaders—even of the self-described "resistance" party—who pave his path.

As a former war hero & President warned us, "We should take nothing for granted."

That's exactly why I'm running to represent you in Congress.

Many thanks for your support!

Your voice in Washington,
Shahid
