Dear Neighbor,

Election season has finally passed, and preparations for the 2025 session are ramping up with a new landscape of power at the Capitol for the next biennium. Here’s a look at the latest from St. Paul:

*Proud to represent District 14A*

The trust local residents placed in me to continue serving as their voice in the House is incredibly humbling. It’s an honor and a privilege to represent the people of District 14A and I look forward to working with you to tackle the challenges we face in the upcoming biennium. Please let me know how I can help.

*House is tied*

As for the change in power at the Capitol, House Republicans flipped three seats to gain a 67-67 tie and create a split House. This will be the second time in state history the House has had an equal division of power, following 1979.

Session Daily ran a pretty interesting article [ [link removed] ] detailing all the goings on back then, including a look at how the two parties shared power. We are in the process of working through those decisions now and hope we have a smooth start to the session. House Republicans selected Rep. Lisa Demuth of Cold Spring to continue in her role as the leader of our caucus and she will do an excellent job working to ensure balance truly is restored at the Capitol.

*Bipartisanship will be key*

Maybe the best news in all this is “bipartisanship” will be the key word for the upcoming biennium after one party ran unchecked the last two years. Now, partisan proposals will need to be parked at the door as we focus on reasonable solutions to help all Minnesotans.

Isn’t that what most people want from their government, after all?

Watch for more from the Capitol as we get our House structure in place and make our way toward the session’s Jan. 14 start with more balance at the Capitol. I’m really looking forward to seeing what committee assignments I receive and hope to share those details soon.

*Happy Thanksgiving*

Thanksgiving

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving in the company of family and friends. It’s a good time for us all to take a deep breath and think about the true blessings we have in our lives that sometimes get overshadowed by the day-to-day challenges.
