J Street

Hi Friends,

I’m writing to share with you the latest column from the J Street Policy Center, authored by my colleague Avraham Spraragen: “Biden Must Enforce US Law on Military Aid to Israel.

In their October 13 letter to top Israeli government officials, Secretary of State Blinken and Secretary of Defense Austin called on Israel to take steps within 30 days to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The letter outlined fifteen concrete measures to increase humanitarian aid, ensure the proper functioning of humanitarian corridors, and end the isolation of northern Gaza. Blinken and Austin warned Israel that failure to implement these measures by the deadline would have consequences, pursuant to US law. Following the expiration of the 30 days, eight leading NGOs released a scorecard outlining how Israel has failed to meet any of the fifteen US government metrics.

Avraham’s column makes the case that the Biden Administration must respond to this failure by upholding US law and withholding certain offensive weapons transfers to Israel. President Biden should take this step before leaving office in order to send a clear and firm message that the US will not support the manner in which Netanyahu continues to wage this war.

Please feel free to share it widely.

Warm regards,
Debra
