Hi John,

The holiday season is a time for gratitude, family, and connection. But we’ve all had that moment when an uncle, aunt, or distant cousin makes a cringeworthy comment about abortion.

So what can you say to them this year, as we anticipate a second Trump presidency?

While sometimes it may be best not to engage, we want you to have some messages ready to have an honest conversation based on facts.

- Stay fact-focused: Abortion is health care. The majority of Americans want the decision of whether someone can have an abortion left to the person and their doctor (75%) including in the last three months of pregnancy (66%) versus regulated by the government. We also saw voters overwhelmingly supporting state constitutional amendments to uphold abortion rights across the country this recent election.

- Reinforce personal autonomy: Abortion is safe, common, and essential. And it is people’s right to make the best medical decisions for their lives and families. Period.

- Share the truth about bans: Abortion bans harm the most vulnerable communities, especially people of color, low-income families, and rural populations. They also have an impact on our economy, and it’s not a good one. Bans create barriers, not solutions.

It’s never easy having these conversations, but it IS possible to find common ground despite the immense polarization we all feel. And hey, for those of you who just want to stick it to your anti-abortion relatives this year, nothing says “I love you” like donating to expand abortion access in their name.

By donating to NIRH, you (and your family member 😉) are helping ensure everyone has access to the care they need. Together we can build a future where we protect reproductive health and rights for all.
