We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
The average cost for child care in Illinois is $13,762. That’s 14% of the state’s median income. Workers with children, especially single parents, are faced with horrible trade-offs. During this crisis, these trade-offs became a catch-22 for working families. Parents are being called back to their jobs, but childcare facilities, schools, and summer camps remain closed. How can they go back to work without accessible childcare? And how can they afford childcare when facilities reopen if they can’t go back to work? This is an emergency. Working families need help, now. Childcare is essential. Add your name to demand the Trump administration fix our broken child care system >>> More than 51% of Americans live in neighborhoods classified as child care deserts. And Latino families disproportionately reside in child care deserts, with nearly 60 percent of their population living in areas with an under supply of licensed child care. While Republicans focus on enriching big corporations and the already wealthy, working families are struggling just to keep their heads above water. We demand real coronavirus relief for working families now -- and truly affordable, accessible childcare for all working families when the country overcomes this crisis. I am calling on the Trump administration to fix our broken child care system, immediately - but I can’t do it alone. Together, we will build a stronger Chicagoland. ¡Sí Se Puede!
