Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you can enjoy time with loved ones, reflect on the blessings of the past year, and recharge for the year ahead. At the Capitol, we’re already hard at work preparing for the 2025 legislative session, following the significant victory of ending the DFL’s Trifecta earlier this month.
This election resulted in a 67-67 tie in the Minnesota House—something that has only happened once before, in 1979. At that time, the two parties shared power by alternating the speakership and dividing control of the top committees. This year, we’ve taken a different approach.
Our caucus has entered a power-sharing agreement with the DFL. Committees will be evenly divided, with a 50-50 split, and co-chairs from both parties will alternate leadership of committee meetings. While discussions about the speakership continue, I am confident we will reach an agreement that positions us to deliver on the priorities Minnesotans care about.
This unique arrangement means every bill will require bipartisan support to move forward, giving us a strong position to block radical policies and focus on meaningful reforms like lowering taxes, stopping fraud, and improving educational outcomes. Our caucus is committed to delivering for Minnesotans.
I’m excited to begin this historic session and will keep you updated as we move forward. I plan to write every couple of weeks from now until session starts in mid January and more often after that. You can always contact me in the meantime.
Thank you for your continued support! I wish you and your family a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
