Dear John,

Through your generosity, you are shining a light into the darkness of human trafficking and giving survivors a chance at freedom and hope.

In Uganda, a heartbreaking story is unfolding—a case that lays bare the cruelty of human trafficking, but also the resilience of justice. Recently, four alleged traffickers and members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist organization, were arrested for committing unimaginable crimes against children. In this case - five vulnerable lives were shattered by forced marriages, physical abuse, and being forced to fight as children in armed conflict.

One young child was rescued during a brave operation by Uganda's defense forces, a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy. But for others, their whereabouts remain a painful mystery. In this web of exploitation, a father involved his own children, who have since disappeared, while another accomplice financed these acts of terror. The pain and loss these families have endured are immeasurable.

Yet, thanks to the tireless efforts of HTI’s embedded Special Counsel, working hand-in-hand with Uganda’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, there is hope for justice. By gathering critical evidence and making direct links between the accused traffickers and the ADF operative, prosecutors are building a case that will hold these traffickers accountable.
