Dear Friend,
We want to thank you for being a part of the AFSC community—and for all the ways that you help us work for peace, justice, and human dignity in the U.S. and across the globe. Please take a moment to watch this video highlighting some of the ways that your generous support made a difference this year.
With support from community members like you, AFSC has provided life-saving aid to over 1.3 million displaced people in Gaza. Through staff and partners on the ground, we have delivered water, hot meals, food parcels, and fresh vegetables. We’ve distributed mattresses and blankets, as well as hygiene kits with soap, toothbrushes, women’s hygiene products, and other critical supplies. And we’ve provided school supplies and recreational activities for over 19,000 children.
We also saw historic wins this year from the divestment movement. Activists across the U.S. successfully convinced institutions to divest from the ongoing genocide in Gaza, with technical and strategic support from AFSC. As one example, AFSC sat on the task force established by San Franciso State University, which became the first university ever to divest for Palestinian rights.
Against a political backdrop of hate and misinformation, AFSC spread a message that immigrants make our communities stronger—and that we need more welcoming, dignified, and just migration policies. That included a national billboard and radio campaign that reached over 11 million people.
We also supported migrants seeking safety. For example, in San Diego, AFSC staff, partners, and volunteers provided humanitarian aid to migrants being held in open-air detention sites along the U.S.-Mexico border without access to basic services. With help from supporters like you, AFSC gave medical care, food and water, dry socks and shoes, and more and helped thousands of migrants—including children—prepare for the next steps on their journeys as they seek asylum.
In Ethiopia, we hosted a symposium to launch a new AFSC strategy to restore peace and stability across the eastern and Horn of Africa. The event was an opportunity for AFSC, along with key stakeholders and representatives across Africa and the globe, to find collaborative ways to achieve a just, sustainable and peaceful region where people can live with dignity.
We were able to do this work and more with the generous support of the AFSC community. As we look to the year ahead, solidarity is more important than ever. Let’s continue to show up for each other as we collectively build a just, sustainable, and peaceful world together.
In peace, |
