November 2024
Outright International Monthly NewsletterÂ
|
|
In this month’s update, Outright International reminds the incoming U.S. government of its obligation under international human rights law to reject discriminatory policies that threaten the dignity and rights of LGBTIQ communities globally. The newsletter also highlights the role of funders in responding to the evolving needs of the global LGBTIQ movement. We introduce a new report making the case for self-declared legal gender recognition based on good practices in 20 countries, and you will get to catch up on a webinar discussion on gender-based violence against LGBTIQ people. We share with you Outright International and  Harvard’s Carr Center’s collaboration to advance global intersex rights.  You will also get your chance to book your virtual seat at OutSummit 2024, an annual global conference that brings together LGBTIQ activists, allies, and changemakers to advance human rights.

In reaction to the recent U.S. elections, Outright International has called on the incoming government to uphold its international human rights obligations and reject discriminatory policies that threaten the dignity and rights of LGBTIQ communities globally. The statement emphasizes that rising nationalism, authoritarianism, calls to withdraw from multilateral institutions, and attacks on gender equality threaten the global progress made toward justice, inclusion, and equality for LGBTIQ communities and calls for global solidarity to counter discriminatory forces. Read the full press statement.

“Empowering Identity: The Case for Self-Determined Legal Gender Recognition” is a new resource from Outright International that advances arguments for self-declared legal gender recognition. It is based on an analysis of gender identity laws and trans people’s experiences in 20 countries that reach or come close to the gold standard for rights-based gender recognition. Learn how legal gender recognition transforms lives, opening doors to stable employment, housing, healthcare, and equitable social inclusion, fostering full participation in society.
