Here Are Our Updates!

In this month’s update, Outright International reminds the incoming U.S. government of its obligation under international human rights law to reject discriminatory policies that threaten the dignity and rights of LGBTIQ communities globally. The newsletter also highlights the role of funders in responding to the evolving needs of the global LGBTIQ movement. We introduce a new report making the case for self-declared legal gender recognition based on good practices in 20 countries, and you will get to catch up on a webinar discussion on gender-based violence against LGBTIQ people. Outright International held a webinar on the latest research uncovering underreported gender-based violence against LGBTIQ communities to mark the United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Watch moderator Neela Ghoshal and experts Thiruna Naidoo, Alberto de Belaunde, Madhura Chakraborty, and Kimberly Zieselman discuss online harassment, conversion practices, and intersex genital mutilation—and explore how a gender-based violence framework can help address these issues globally.

From October 21 to November 8 we celebrated Intersex Awareness Week leading up to Intersex Day of Solidarity! We continue to shine the light on the inspiring voices of intersex change-makers from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America through a global multimedia initiative.
