Every year, three million sharks are slaughtered for their livers – their
bodies thrown back into the ocean to endure a slow, painful death—all for
profit. Retail giants like Amazon and eBay play a tragic role in this
crisis, profiting from products containing “squalene”, an oil harvested
from shark livers for cosmetics and supplements that claim to enhance
beauty and health.

Despite the availability of plant-based alternatives like olives, these
companies continue to offer shark products, fueling the extinction of an
ancient species that keep our ecosystems alive.

​​As a global community of millions, we can force these retail giants to
ban the sale of shark liver oil for good. Are you in?

[ [link removed] ]Amazon and eBay: Stop selling shark liver oil and products that contain
shark “squalene”.

To produce just one tonne of squalene, up to three thousand sharks are
killed – over 60 species are specifically targeted for their livers, with
26 classified as vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for
Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The scale of this slaughter is catastrophic, especially for deepwater
sharks, whose large, oil-rich livers allow them to survive in the dark
ocean depths.

Companies prefer shark squalene because it’s arguably cheaper and easier
to extract. But our planet pays the real price. This brutal practice is
pushing these apex predators toward extinction, destabilizing ocean
ecosystems, and worsening the environmental crisis.

Just recently, we’ve come together as the Ekō-Community and pushed the
major airline TUI to ban transporting shark fins in their cargo. Today, we
can save sharks from another major extinction threat by pushing major
online retailers to stop selling shark liver oil products. Are you in?
