I know it’s been a heavy few weeks following the results of the presidential election.

The outcome is not the one I’d hoped for, and I know most of you feel the same way. Regardless of who you supported in the election, please remember our democracy worked and election professionals in Oregon and across the country protected a free and fair election.

Here in Oregon, voters supported progressive individuals to be our next statewide leaders as Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Attorney General. Those offices will be in good hands next year. And the Oregon Senate and the Oregon House each picked up another Democratic seat and will maintain their Democratic majorities, so the legislature will be well-equipped to protect our state’s values.

That said, lots of folks are scared, sad, or both. It's time to dig deep and recommit ourselves to working together. I know there are good people in every corner of Oregon who are working tirelessly to shape a better future for their families and communities. Let’s come together and build on this resolve and stay committed to collaboration for the common good.

Oregonians have shown they will continue to lead with compassion, courage, and conviction — protecting a place where everyone can live freely and authentically.

This week, we’ll gather with friends and family to give thanks. I’m thankful for Oregon and what we’ve built in our state. And I’m thankful to be your governor in these challenging times.

We are strong, resilient, and unified by our shared belief in a brighter tomorrow. And, as your governor, I will always have your back and work hard to uplift and protect our wonderful state.
