Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon, everyone, and happy Tuesday!
I hope everyone is staying warm with the snow that blew through Wisconsin. I’m also wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving this week—a time for us to reflect on our blessings with friends and family.
Last week, I was thrilled to see the Senate pass my bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Muskego in honor of Colonel Hans Christian Heg. I’ve talked at length since introducing this bill last year about the incredible legacy that Colonel Heg left behind. By renaming this post office after Colonel Heg, we are cementing this war hero and abolitionist’s legacy in Wisconsin. Colonel Heg has a history worth honoring and remembering, and this bill does exactly that.
This bill has passed through many votes in the House and Senate but finally, the next stop is the White House!
In more Wisconsin-related news, it was also announced last week that President-elect Trump will nominate former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy to be the next Secretary of Transportation. I’ve known Sean for a long time now—he is a man of integrity and will bring common-sense Wisconsin leadership to Washington that our country sorely needs right now!
I also joined Mornings with Maria on Fox Business last week to discuss Trump’s cabinet picks and the resignations of SEC Chair Gary Gensler and FDIC Chair Martin Gruenberg.
I’ve called on Chair Gruenberg to resign on numerous occasions with my Financial Services Committee colleagues. Chair Gruenberg has a documented record of creating a toxic work environment at FDIC. New leadership can’t come soon enough to fix his terrible decisions to put politics over agency credibility.
SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s tenure was no better: chaotic and stifled innovation are the words I’d use to describe his work at the SEC.
His ESG and climate rules distracted from what really matters: growing the economy and delivering returns for investors. Not to mention, his hostility toward crypto created uncertainty and hurt innovation in a booming industry.
We need clear, consistent rules—not enforcement by litigation. Under new leadership, we can bring stability, foster innovation, and rebuild trust in our markets. It’s time to refocus the SEC on protecting investors, ensuring fair markets, and driving growth.
Lastly, it was great to meet with UW System President Rothman to discuss Wisconsin’s premier higher education and the resources needed to keep our higher education system top-of-the-line. My thanks go out to President Rothman for taking the time to meet with me!
That wraps the updates from last week.
Have a great week everyone and thanks for reading along!
-Scott
