election, Bernie didn’t hold back — he said the Democratic Party must
choose between the elites and the working class. Nancy Pelosi didn’t like
that.

Pelosi claims the party already represents the interests of the working
class. If Democrats like Pelosi refuse to acknowledge and reflect on the
realities of this election, Trump’s GOP will keep winning elections cycle
after cycle.

In The Guardian, Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese
built on Bernie’s important critique. Joseph said, “There was a
fundamental failure by the Harris campaign to acknowledge people’s
economic pain or adopt Bernie Sanders-style populism, which is where the
energy was within the Democratic party in 2016 and 2020.”

“We need a populist economic left willing to challenge corporate power,”
he said.

If the Democratic Party leaned into the economic priorities of the working
class and embraced Bernie’s agenda of raising wages and delivering on
healthcare and housing, the election could have turned out differently.
And if Democrats fail to adapt, the GOP could keep growing its support
amongst the working class.

It’s on us right now to strategize as a grassroots progressive movement
and find a path forward. We must fight Trumpism and the billionaire class.
We must build for a future where Democrats embrace the economic and social
issues that make a winning coalition AND a material difference in the
lives of the working class.
