[1]National Nurses United
We have
some great news.
The next COVID-19 stimulus bill (otherwise known as the HEROES Act) passed
the House last night! This is a huge step towards getting the support that
families need and the protections we require to stay safe as we care for
our patients.
Because of your work calling, writing, and tweeting members of Congress,
this COVID-19 relief bill includes measures we’ve been fighting for,
including:
* Ensuring nurses and health care workers have sufficient supplies of
personal protective equipment (PPE) by ordering mass production under
the Defense Production Act. The bill would also create new systems and
a new federal coordinator position for the reporting, transparency,
and coordination of the PPE supply chain.
* Implementing an emergency temporary national standard by OSHA on
infectious diseases to protect workers.
But now this bill goes to the Senate — and we can’t risk it not
passing. If the Senate doesn’t pass this bill, we would have to go back to
square one, leaving thousands of nurses and health care workers in danger
without the PPE they need.

HEROES Act?
To call your senators, use our COVID-19 national hotline:
→ Dial (202) 335-6015 ←
You can use this sample script when you call (be sure to mention if you
are a nurse or health care worker!):
“Hi, my name is ______ and I’m a constituent of yours from
Washington. I’m calling to ask you to take action to protect nurses
and other frontline health care workers. Nurses across the country report
that they are still not receiving the personal protective equipment (PPE)
they need to safely care for COVID-19 patients. I am urging you to ensure
that the next stimulus package includes a temporary infectious diseases
standard from OSHA as well as a mandate to fully utilize the Defense
Production Act to rapidly scale up our country’s production of PPE. Thank
you.”

This bill could be the start of getting every single nurse and health care
worker in the country the PPE they need to defend themselves and their
patients against COVID-19 and forcing employers to follow critical safety
standards.

must be included when the Senate deliberates on the next stimulus bill.
