Hi John - As many states around the country begin implementing a phased reopening of businesses, working parents are scrambling to find child care arrangements so their kids are well cared for when it is time to go back to work. At the same time, child care owners and teachers don’t have what they need to address new safety requirements and costs of reopening. Many child care providers had to close their doors since the start of the COVID-19 crisis. They may not be able to reopen – just when moms and dads need them the most. Unfortunately, the new bill that the House of Representatives passed yesterday falls far short of the need. If Congress doesn’t step it up, child care providers won’t be able to open when it is safe. And moms and dads won’t be able to get back to work, creating even more economic hardship. Urge your members of Congress to support robust, dedicated funding for child care programs so they can safely reopen and care for children. The good news is that the American public strongly supports dedicated funding for child care in the wake of this crisis. We recently conducted a poll with our friends at Child Care Aware of America and found strong support across party lines for funding the child care industry. 82% of Republicans, 84% of Independents and 94% of Democrats support targeted assistance for the child care industry. We have the public on our side, John. Now it’s up to us to persuade Congress to increase funding for child care providers and workers. Will you send a message to Congress today? While there are a great number of industries facing tremendous hardship right now, none play the unique anchoring role that child care does in our economy. In order for parents to get back to work, they need to have a safe place for their kids to go. Please send a message to your members of Congress today so child care teachers and workers have sufficient, dedicated support to keep their vital programs running. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
