John,
There’s been a whirlwind on social media from pundits and political commentators in the three weeks since the election — all as Republicans plot to divide working people and enrich their billionaire allies under a second Trump administration.
While others might be busy pointing fingers, we're busy gearing up for the fight ahead. Because once Trump is inaugurated on January 20th, we know we'll have our work cut out for us.
This fall, WFP members and organizers knocked on more than 1.6 million doors across six swing states. And one thing we heard over and over is that a lot of working people don’t feel represented by either of the two major parties, both of whom they feel are beholden to billionaire donors.
This fight ahead of us is not simply left vs. right. It’s not just red vs. blue. It’s about the ultra-wealthy vs. everyone else. And we know the same playbook from 2016 will NOT give us the adequate tools to win it.
We’re only three weeks past Election Day. None of us have all the answers right now. As we move forward, we are doing so with humility — but also with confidence that the values and mission of the Working Families Party will be more important over the next few years than ever before.
We need to be smart about taking on the authoritarian threat and stopping Republicans from implementing their Project 2025 masterplan. But that can’t be all we do.
We also need to build independent political power outside of the two-party system. Made up of working people, fighting for working people. Not just at the federal level, but in towns, cities, and municipalities — securing victories that people can see and feel, and meeting them where they are to make sure they know about it.
And we need to start planning now to win back power in 2026 and 2028 — and win back working class voters who may have gone a different way this year by showing them what a different kind of politics can look like.
Our mission is to give working people a real reason to re-engage in the political process, and vote in ways that benefit all of our communities.
