Dinner together has always been a cornerstone of my family life. And on holidays like Thanksgiving, we really go all out.
So this time of year, I can't help but think of how much it would mean to have my dad at the table with us, carving the turkey and laughing with his grandkids.
But my father, Robert Godwin Sr., can’t be with me and my family because he was shot and killed seven years ago while he was walking to my house for dinner in a heinous, random attack that was broadcast on the internet.
But, friend, despite my grief and sorrow, I know that there are still reasons to be thankful — and Brady is one of them.
After my father's murder, finding Brady felt like coming home again as I dove into gun violence prevention work. So I'm thankful to be part of this team, for being able to work every day alongside other survivors who know firsthand just how important this work is.
I'm thankful that I can go to bed at night knowing that all of us at Brady are doing everything in our power to make sure that no other family has to feel the loss and grief that my family and I live with every day.
And I'm also thankful for you, friend, because you're part of this team too, and it is your support that powers this work forward and makes our progress possible.
As Thanksgiving and Giving Tuesday approach, all of us at Brady are looking to you and counting on you once again. This is the most important time of the year for our organization, and every dollar we raise now ensures that our grassroots efforts can continue into the new year.
So if you are able, I have a personal request: Will you chip in $5 today to honor all the fathers killed by gun violence and ensure that we can keep fighting for those we can still save? Generous donors are 200%-MATCHING all donations made before Giving Tuesday!

My dad taught me to examine my legacy, and that's why I’ve dedicated my life to ending this uniquely American epidemic.
Thank you for making it part of your legacy as well,
