Immediately after the election, Ashley and I flew to Washington for freshman orientation. At the end of a long ten days of briefings, meetings, and interviews, I joined my freshman colleagues for the office lottery. Of the more than 50 new Members of Congress, I drew the 14th pick, and a bipartisan group of freshman allowed me to pick the office once used by my great grandfather, Congressman Louis Rabaut, who served in Congress for 24 years. I am grateful to my new colleagues for allowing me this honor and am excited to move in and get to work. Among my great grandfather’s accomplishments, was adding “Under God” to America’s Pledge of Allegiance, something my family and I are very proud of. This Thanksgiving, I will be with my extended family and hope to learn more about his time in Congress. |
