November 26, 2024: Weekly Newsletter | The House Oversight Committee passed my Dismantle DEI Act on a party-line vote of 23-17 to send the bill to the House floor. This bill would accomplish three main objectives: 1. Eliminate DEI offices across federal agencies. 2. End DEI requirements for federal contractors and grant applicants. 3. Restore accountability to ensure taxpayer dollars are used to serve all Americans, not to perpetuate division. Diversity, equity, and inclusion—these are words that, on the surface, seem to represent ideals we can all support. However, when these principles are redefined and implemented as an ideology within our federal government, they take on a meaning that diverges from their original intent. Under the guise of progress, this ideology seeks to categorize individuals based on immutable characteristics rather than valuing the content of their character or their individual achievements. True justice is—and must remain—blind. It should not consider race, sex, or other characteristics when evaluating an individual. Instead, it must focus on fairness, merit, and equal opportunity. As lawmakers, it is our duty to craft laws that reflect these values. The news that FEMA told staff to skip over homes with Trump yard signs is deeply concerning, but unfortunately, it is also not isolated to FEMA—it reflects a troubling culture within our government agencies that prioritizes partisan politics over mission. It’s not written policy for the IRS to target conservatives, the NIH to fund gain-of-function research, or DHS to release foreign terrorists into our communities, or the FBI to target people of faith either—yet we’ve seen it occur. This isn’t about written rules or policies; it’s about a culture that allows these actions to persist. Even FEMA, tasked with disaster response, has strayed from its mission. Their 2022-2026 Strategic Plan declares their top priority is to “Instill Equity as a Foundation of Emergency Management.” Why is DEI the focus of disaster response? Emergency management should be about saving lives and helping all Americans—not pushing divisive agendas. We must dismantle DEI initiatives within our federal government to ensure agencies stay mission-focused and accountable to the American people. | DOGE: Efficiency and Accountability for Better Government | Imagine a government that operates with the same precision, innovation, and accountability as Elon Musk's ventures like Starlink, SpaceX, and Tesla. Now imagine that same mindset driving the elimination of waste, unapproved expenditures, and unnecessary regulations. That’s the vision behind the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led voluntarily by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. DOGE's immediate goal is to review the over $500 billion in unauthorized federal spending, including funds funneled to partisan organizations like Planned Parenthood and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This bold initiative reflects the kind of results-driven, private-sector efficiency our government desperately needs. We’ve seen what happens when government becomes bloated and disconnected from the American people. It’s time to turn the tide. With innovators like Elon and Vivek at the helm, we’re laying the groundwork for a government that works for you—not against you. | I joined Fox Business to spotlight critical issues impacting our nation. From discussing my bill to dismantle divisive DEI mandates, to holding FEMA accountable for misusing taxpayer funds on DEI initiatives, we explored how misplaced priorities undermine American interests. We also tackled immigration and border enforcement under Texas leadership and the new Trump administration, along with Elon musk and Vivek's efforts to cut waste through the Department of Government Accountability. | Rep.
