Last week, I joined colleagues from across the country in our nation’s capital to attend a conference. These gatherings happen a few times a year, providing an opportunity to share the projects we’re working on and the candidates we’re supporting. This collaboration helps prevent overlap and allows us to connect with the incredible people doing transformative work across the country—and in some cases, the world.

Unlike previous meetings filled with excitement, the mood this time was more reflective and focused on preparation. While not marked by despair, it was clear we were all feeling the weight of the challenges ahead. We looked to one another for comfort, guidance, and hope. Collectively, we understood the gravity of the fight we’re entering, and no one is taking it lightly. Representing some of the largest organizations in the country, the attendees—myself included, as Executive Director of No Dem Left Behind— are united in our commitment to advocate for our members, candidates, and the values we stand for.

The Trump cabinet is taking shape, and I know many are feeling scared—some even panicking. Lives will undoubtedly change before our eyes, as this administration seeks to sow fear and intimidate. But we must remind one another: we are not facing this alone. Marginalized groups will not go unprotected. Nearly half the country agrees with us, which means there is no sweeping Trump mandate or massive overhaul of our nation’s values. Yes, they control the three branches of government, but they answer to us—the citizens of this country. Our voices are our most powerful tool in defending democracy.

The recent withdrawal of Matt Gaetz as the nominee for Attorney General is a powerful example of the influence we still hold to shape our future. Gaetz was an awful pick for AG—his extremism, compounded by multiple scandals, made him one of the most controversial nominations in recent history. Democrats across the country were loud and unified in their disapproval, using our platforms to call out this disastrous choice. It worked. The backlash forced Gaetz to withdraw and resign from Congress, proving that when we speak up and fight back together, we can change the course of our nation. This victory is proof that our collective action matters, and it should fuel us for the battles ahead.

Trump may have won the presidency, but voters did not choose to sell our country to the highest bidder. Yet that’s exactly what he’s doing, as he aligns himself with the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, along with Big Pharma, Big Tech, and Wall Street. These interests are already celebrating and strategizing to monopolize our economy and government. It’s up to us to expose every instance of corruption, every nefarious act, and bring it to the American people.

We face a daunting challenge, but we are not giving up. This election cycle was expensive, and while we understand the concerns about money in politics, we know this fight cannot be won without resources. MAGA is counting on us to fall apart, to lose our momentum. That will never happen—not for us, and not for you.

We are asking for your support, whether as a monthly contributor or through a one-time donation, because our country—and her future—is worth it.

In solidarity,

-Hassan Martini
