John,
Our new reports reveal that the combined wealth of the new Trump administration— including president, vice president, transition team, cabinet members, and other key appointees—exceeds $313 billion, making it the richest administration in history.[1] These appointees have no intention of governing for the people. They want to dismantle critical programs while engineering tax cuts to line their own pockets.
At the forefront is Elon Musk, co-director of Trump’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency.” Musk is the richest man in history, worth over $300 billion, yet he paid no federal income taxes in 2018. Now, he’s spearheading a plan to cut $2 trillion in federal investments, which will come from programs that millions of families depend on, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, education, housing, and veterans’ benefits.
Linda McMahon, the Education Secretary nominee, profited from a WWE empire that denies workplace protections to its employees. Her appointment is a signal that public schools and working families will lose out as corporate interests take priority. Howard Lutnick, a Wall Street mogul who is leading Trump’s transition team and is the incoming president’s pick for Commerce Secretary, backs Trump’s devastating tariff plan, which could cost families $4,000 a year.
And, billionaire hedge-fund manager Scott Bessent, Trump’s choice for Treasury Secretary, is pushing a plan to cut the annual federal budget deficit by almost a trillion dollars. Since Trump and his fellow Republicans are opposed to raising taxes on billionaires like Bessent—or on the huge corporations they control through their stock holdings—that proposed reduction in the deficit would mostly come from cuts to vital public services working families rely on, like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, other healthcare, housing, and education.
Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund is leading the charge to stop this power grab. With your support, we can expose their greed, defend critical programs and services, and demand a government that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
Power our critical research and activism to fight back against Trump’s billionaire cabinet, which is preparing to implement Trump’s vision of cutting critical programs for working families to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
It’s clear that the billionaire takeover of America has reached a terrifying new phase. In a single week after Trump's election victory, America's 815 billionaire oligarchs added a staggering $276 billion to their fortunes―with Elon Musk alone pocketing $57 billion in seven days.[2]
This isn't just obscene wealth accumulation, it's a calculated power grab. As of mid-November, these modern-day robber barons were, combined, worth an unprecedented $6.7 trillion—and they're using that immense wealth to dismantle the public services working families depend on.
Take Vivek Ramaswamy, a pharmaceutical billionaire who is co-chair of Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency.” Ramaswamy is promoting a flat tax that would raise costs for middle-class families while giving the wealthy another tax break. Or North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who’s been selected as Trump’s Secretary of the Interior and is himself worth $100 million. He’s pushing to weaken environmental protections―a massive handout to the fossil fuel industry.
The bottom line is that these oligarchs are hell-bent on extending Trump’s tax cuts while enriching themselves and billion dollar corporations, adding $5 trillion to the deficit and giving Republicans the ammunition they need to slash funding for everything from Social Security to education and healthcare.
Help us fight back and demand a tax system and economy that ensures billionaires and corporations pay their fair share while protecting the services that millions of Americans depend on. Donate now to take the fight to Trump’s billionaire cabinet and protect critical programs for working families.
