Another Trump presidency is tough news, but together, we’ve faced these challenges before—and we’ll do it again. And while we fought hard to stop this presidential outcome, there’s a lot to celebrate in state legislative races.
Sister District has helped elect 31 exceptional candidates to battleground state legislatures―where their determination and hard work will be critical to defending our progress, rights, and democracy itself in coming years.Â
Our nationwide, grassroots community stepped up fearlessly in 2024, driving record-breaking field support for Sister District candidates that included 2 million dials, 85,000 postcards, and 9,000 door knocks as well as $1.4+ million in donations to their campaigns. Because of supporters like you, the following Sister District candidates have won their hard-fought races:

These wins resulted in some important chamber victories, including holding the MN Senate and PA House and breaking Republican supermajorities in the NC House and WI Senate!Â
A number of our candidates are also pioneering representation as historic firsts in their state legislatures:
- Lorena Austin is the first non-binary person to be re-elected to the AZ House.
- Patty Kim is the first AAPI woman in the PA Senate.
- Kristin Alfheim is the first openly LGBTQ woman to serve in the WI Senate.
- Mai Xiong is the first Hmong American elected to the MI Assembly.
- Amaad Rivera-Wagner is the first out gay Black man elected to the WI state legislature.
- Lisa Grafstein continues to be the only out LGBTQ woman in the NC Senate.
