Legislative Update
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you're able to spend some time with your family and take some time off of work to prepare for the new year. Here at the House, we're working tirelessly to prepare for the 2025 Session after ending the DFL's Trifecta earlier this month!

Like I mentioned in my previous newsletter, even though we ended the DFL's Trifecta, the House ended up in a 67-67 tie, which has only happened once before in our state's history. When this happened in 1979, the two parties split the power by trading the speakership for control of the top three committees while retaining an equal number of majorities on every other committee. This year, however, it will be different.
This year our caucus has entered into a power-sharing agreement with the DFL that states that each committee will be evenly split 50-50 to include rotating co-chairs from each party. The speakership is still up in the air, but I'm confident that we'll be able to work out an agreement with the DFL that puts us in a position to deliver results for Minnesotans. I hope to tackle everything from clamping down on fraud to improving public safety and education, and I believe we can accomplish these goals, even in a tie.
With the committees being evenly split, every bill that passes to the floor will need to be bipartisan since they will, in most cases, need to pass through multiple evenly divided committees just to reach an evenly divided floor. Because of this, our caucus is in a great position to stop the most radical of the DFL's agenda while providing accountability and delivering on our promises to Minnesotans.
I'm excited to start this historic session and I will continue to provide updates as news breaks. Thank you for reading and Happy Thanksgiving!
