Dear Neighbor,
I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving as we pause to reflect on all the reasons we can be thankful as blessed citizens of the United States of America and the great state of Minnesota.
Thank you to the men and women of our armed forces who have sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms. Thanks to our health care workers and law enforcement officers, thank you to the farmers who grow our food, and drivers who transport goods and our store owners/workers who make things we need every day accessible and keep us going.
It is because of these people – many of whom will be on the clock as we enjoy our Thanksgiving turkey – that we are able to enjoy this holiday.
In other news, I am grateful for all of your support on November 5th and look forward to serving you and your family for another two years in St. Paul.
As for the makeup of the 2025 legislative session, I am pleased to report that the Democrat Trifecta and one-party-control of state government will be coming to an end. Beginning on January 14th, when all 134 members of the Minnesota House of Representatives are sworn in, the new party split will be 67-67. This means that neither Republicans nor Democrats will have an outright majority in the House.
Because of this, all legislation will need bipartisan support for it to pass and have a chance to become law.
While the power sharing agreement between Republicans and Democrats is still being fully negotiated, all of us can rest easy knowing that a much-needed check on complete Democrat power in the state legislature will be in full effect come January 14th.
Please continue to reach out to my office if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. You can call me at 651-296-5516 or email me at [email protected].
Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving,
Matt
