John,
Demand for rabbit meat is skyrocketing—by the end of next year 1.8 million tonnes of rabbit meat will have been farmed globally.
But the meat industry's working from the animal cruelty playbook: rabbits locked in cages with dead rabbits and so little space they can't even hop.
The European Commission was meant to release its plan to ban caged animal farming a year ago. But it missed its own deadline. Public pressure forced Austria, Germany and the Netherlands to ban caged rabbit farming, now let's expand this ban across Europe and then the world.
Sign the petition: ban caged rabbit farming.
Industrial rabbit farms often isolate these social animals in individual cages. Rabbits gnaw on the bars of their cages in distress and have been found with painful pressure sores on their feet because of wire floors.
The new college of EU Commissioners officially start on December 1. So now’s our opportunity to get this on their agenda and demand the European Commission keep its promises. It’s time for the EU to end the cage age.
EU Commission: empty cages, not empty promises.
When we work together we’re a powerful force for change. Global pressure forced the egg farming industry to lift its standards for chickens. And just recently Ekō members like you were part of a push that saw California pass a historic bill banning octopus farming!
Now, let’s call on the EU to fulfil its promises and ban caged rabbit farming.
