John, knowledge is power. And our schools, our books, are the source of that power.

It’s no surprise that Republican lawmakers are trying to ban books and defund our education system. They are scared of all of that power.

Because, when we read we learn our history and how to not repeat it. We are transported into the lives and stories of others, letting us feel empathy and community with people from all walks of life. When we learn and read we know the power of our voice, and we claim it as our own.

I won’t let some Republican lawmakers take that away from any young person, not without one hell of a fight.
