Good evening, and welcome to our Weekend Update.

This week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled against Democrats' attempts to break election laws by counting defective ballots. This ruling ensures that Dave McCormick will be our next U.S. Senator. I again congratulate Senator-elect McCormick and look forward to working with him in Washington.

That said, Democratic officials publicly calling to defy election laws were met with outrage by many, but not Governor Josh Shapiro. The idea that our sitting governor and former attorney general wouldn’t make a statement when the law is being defied is disturbing and disconcerting to voters and all of Pennsylvania. It should not matter if those officials are from his own party.

This week, I was in Washington again as we continued to lay the groundwork for President-elect Donald J. Trump’s new administration so we could get to work Making America Great Again.

President-Elect Trump is assembling a cabinet committed to a pro-growth, America-First agenda. As the nominations are announced, I have no doubt the incoming administration will hit the ground running to address the serious issues facing our country.

The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act will ensure Ryan and other Americans can return home without the added burden of financial fallout from the IRS, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives. IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: The Biden Administration’s agenda led to a border crisis. Laken Riley lost her life because the Biden Administration inexplicably prioritized illegal immigrants over the safety of American Citizens.

Laken Riley’s killer was convicted this week for her murder. Her killer’s conviction marks justice for Laken Riley… January 20, 2025, will usher in justice for all Americans, especially those victimized by migrant crime. The Trump Administration will take swift action to prevent illegal immigrants from endangering our communities.

Ibarra had a long and twisted history in our country thanks to the failed open border policies of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Alejandro Mayorkas. Ibarra entered the nation through El Paso, Texas, in September 2022. In August of 2023, he was arrested in New York City on charges of "acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation." In September of 2023, Ibarra was gifted a taxpayer-funded airline ticket, thanks to federal money made available by the Biden-Harris administration, from Kennedy Airport in Queens to Atlanta. Before that flight, Ibarra enjoyed free taxpayer-funded housing at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan.

The fact remains that due to Biden-Harris's far-left immigration policies, Ibarra, a monster, was delivered to Athens to murder Laken Riley with our taxpayer dollars. Unfortunately, this is not the only example of the horrific results of their open-border policy agenda. 

• Here are just a few examples:
  • An Afghan national was arrested for plotting an Election Day terror attack on behalf of ISIS.
    
    
  • A Venezuela national and Tren de Aragua gang member was arrested in Sunland Park, New Mexico, for an outstanding warrant for homicide in Texas.
    
    
  • Two Venezuelan nationals with suspected ties to Tren de Aragua were arrested in Rensselaer, New York, in connection to a homicide in Stamford, Connecticut.
    
    
  • A Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang member was arrested in El Paso, Texas, for drugging another migrant woman residing at a local hotel and letting men rape her for money.
    
    
  • A Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang member was arrested in Houston, Texas, for theft.
    
    
  • A 27-year-old man from Honduras with a criminal history of domestic violence, aggravated assault, and deadly conduct was arrested while trying to evade Texas state law enforcement after illegally entering the United States. 
    
    
• At least 2,297 people have died attempting to cross the southern border under three years of Biden, more than double the number that died under the entire previous administration.
  
  
• Tens of thousands of migrant children who have come to the U.S. are being exploited and forced into de facto "indentured servitude."
  
  
  • It was originally reported that the Harris-Biden Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) lost track of 85,000 children after responding to Biden's demands to "move the children quickly out of shelters" by rolling back important vetting and safeguarding procedures.
    
    
  • This number has now grown to 320,000 lost children who crossed the border without parents, now at risk of sex trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of exploitation.
    
    
• Criminals are flooding across the border, with Border Patrol arresting 17,048 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions and 523 gang members in FY 2024.
  
  
  • Illegal migrants in New York City are estimated to account for 75 percent of arrests recently in Midtown Manhattan for crimes like assault, robbery, and domestic violence.
    
    
• Meanwhile, Border Patrol agents have been left demoralized and "overwhelmed" by the Biden administration's handling of the crisis.
  
  
  • This year alone, there have been more than 460 assaults on our brave Border Patrol agents.
    
    
• Homeland Security Investigations estimates that Mexican cartels are now making $13 billion a year smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S., 26 times what they made in 2018.

Under President Trump's leadership, our border was never more secure. Working together with Republicans in Congress, we will do it again. We will make our communities, streets, and our country safe again. 

Tuesday marked 161 years since the Gettysburg Address. On this day in 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech that shaped American history. His closing words remain timeless: “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Let these words continue to guide our country, ensuring it is led by, of, and for the people.

Last weekend, my office was pleased to host congressional interviews for our district's young men and women seeking nomination to one of our very special U.S. military academies. I want to thank our Congressional Selection Committee for their service and participation. Our committee includes great, high-ranking individuals, and we enjoyed allowing each candidate to express why they feel they should be nominated to a military academy.

We look forward to nominating and accepting future leaders from Pennsylvania to these Service Academies, who will represent our great district and country. I’m proud to have met with patriotic, smart, driven, hard-working young men and women from our communities. Congratulations, and thanks to all of them for their willingness to defend the United States. We hope to support them as they endeavor to serve our great nation.
