Dear John,

Some of you may know that, in many ways, I have been shaped by the church. I know that for so many LGBTQ+ people, faith and the church can be a fraught topic, and or good reason. My experience is through a welcoming and affirming community, and there are many faith communities that are on the side of welcoming our LGBTQ+ loved ones who refuse to be defined by hateful rhetoric.

Since the election, I’ve been thinking about a Biblical phrase: “For such a time as this.”

I believe all of us who are committed to the mission of PFLAG, to justice and equity, are right here, right now, for such a time as this.

We can’t give up, even when we are disappointed or when the times are hard and the hill seems too steep. When that happens, I think about our ancestors. Despite the odds, they never gave up. Their stories remind us that despite challenge after challenge, there is always hope.

PFLAG is here for such a time as this. So are you. And no matter what, PFLAG National is here for you.

LGBTQ+ people are counting on us. Parents and families need us, to grow and to learn and to become the activists and advocates they MUST be. With #GivingTuesday less than two weeks away, please consider an early gift to PFLAG National to support LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

Like so many of you, I’m personally angered by the election results. But I’m never surprised by the way PFLAGers go all in, showing up to participate in our PFLAG Votes 2024 campaign, Love Votes. That campaign might be over for now, but in the weeks and months ahead—especially as state legislative sessions get under way—we will continue to use our voices, platforms, and influence to say what we as PFLAG are for: The freedom to learn, the freedom to thrive, and the freedom to be ourselves.

Just as the LGBTQ+ people, families and allies of PFLAG have always joined the march for freedom, we are united in this fight to uplift, trust, and respect the voices and power of every member of our community.

LGBTQ+ people and those who love them need PFLAG. We cannot let them down. We cannot give up. And we cannot do this without you.

We are all here, for such a time as this.
