Garbarino Weekly Newsletter from the Office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino If you were forwarded this email, click here to subscribe An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino ANDREW IN THE NEWS FLOAT Act would help Americans afford flood insurance premiums " Bipartisan legislation recently introduced in Congress would provide an above-the-line deduction for flood insurance premiums to help keep them affordable for Americans...If enacted, H.R. 10004 would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide the tax credit of up to $1,000, whether through the National Flood Insurance Program or private insurers. The tax credit under H.R. 10004 would be available to households earning under $200,000 annually, with a phaseout for higher incomes, and up to $400,000 for joint filers. 'Long Islanders know firsthand the impact of flooding and the importance of being prepared,' said U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), the bill’s lead cosponsor. 'This legislation provides a critical incentive for homeowners to protect their properties without breaking the bank,' ...'With instances of severe weather on the rise,” Garbarino said, “the FLOAT Act ensures that families in my district can afford flood insurance coverage, enabling them to recover quickly and avoid devastating financial losses.' WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Overlook Beach Restoration Project Begins This week, Babylon Town officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) came together to mark the start of the Overlook Beach restoration project. This initiative addresses severe erosion that has threatened the beach’s infrastructure and public safety. The project will enhance the shoreline’s resilience and is expected to be completed by spring 2025. Andrew applauds this progress having consistently advocated for federal support to protect Long Island’s coastal communities. He and his team have worked closely with USACE and local leaders. The restoration of Overlook Beach is a vital step in safeguarding Babylon’s shoreline and ensuring its enjoyment for generations to come. NY Jets Salute to Service During the NY Jets’ Salute to Service game, Ian Blaney, a nominee to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from NY-02, received a surprise admission announcement from General Gilland. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Ensuring Social Security Benefits Released A constituent recently reached out to Andrew’s office after facing financial hardship following the passing of her husband. Shortly before his passing, her husband had been approved for Social Security disability benefits, and a payment was issued. However, the bank placed a hold on the funds and attempted to withdraw them, leaving the constituent in a difficult position after using the payment for essential expenses. Andrew’s team intervened, working to ensure the funds were released that same day. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government.
