Justice Democrats

John,

Last week, we reached out about a dangerous bill, HR 9495, that would give the Trump administration sweeping power to shut down any nonprofit organization it doesn’t like by accusing them of supporting terrorists without any due process or proof.

Though it failed to pass its first vote in the House, it unfortunately passed a second vote on Thursday with the support of 15 Democrats, including corrupt Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Tweet from Prem Thakker: Here are the 15 Democrats who voted in favor of HR 9495 — which would empower the Treasury Secretary to revoke nonprofit tax status of orgs based on subjective judgement they’re “terrorist-supporting.” Down from the 52 who supported it last week.

The good news is that the number of Democratic members who voted for this bill drastically decreased from 52 the first time around, no doubt because of the outpouring of public opposition from people like you.

The bad news is that this assault on our freedom of speech and right to organize will now advance to the Senate. If passed, it will give presidents like Donald Trump unprecedented and unchecked power to squash dissent, especially when it comes to organizations speaking out against Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

Justice Democrats is gearing up to challenge corporate, out-of-touch Democrats like those who supported this dangerous bill. The Democratic Party needs to clean house, and we’re recruiting progressive, working class candidates to run and replace them in the next election.

Will you directly fuel our work to find the next generation of leaders to run for Congress, transform the Party for the better, and fight for our shared values?
