Hi,

I hope you are keeping safe and well at home during these times.

It's vital that you know that your unwavering support has been incredible, and it continues to be crucial as we work towards securing a safer, greener, more peaceful world. We can't thank you enough for standing with us now and in the future.

We've loved hearing your stories of how people are supporting each other and the strength of community spirit, which just emphasises the importance of staying connected. With that in mind we wanted to share with you the initiatives that come recommended from fellow Greenpeace supporters, whilst sharing some good news along the way.

The court decision that could spoil BP's North Sea drilling plans: [link removed]

First for some good news - after a legal challenge from Greenpeace the government has admitted it granted a drilling permit for a new oil well unlawfully to BP. This court decision is a significant setback for BP that could stop their new North Sea drilling plans. Read about how it all unfolded, and what comes next in this case to help end the climate emergency.

50+ crowdsourced green-themed books, films, shows and more: [link removed]

If you're looking for eco-themed books, films, TV shows, and podcasts to keep you entertained here are some of the favourites that you've been so generously sharing with us on social media - get your cup of tea ready as there are more than 50 of them!

We loved hearing about the range of things you're enjoying from Bruce Parry's Tawai and Tribe series and iconic documentaries about SeaWorld to shows about Great Bears and Primates. With lots of Attenborough in between, you were also keen to recommend some kids' favourites from Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Zootropolis. Whether it's nature novels, podcasts about upcycled fashion or going on a virtual adventure that you're after we have hopefully got you covered.

Local Greenpeace Groups take their meetings online: [link removed]

In more normal times, you'd find Greenpeace local groups meeting in pubs, cafes or community centres across the country each month, discussing campaigns and making plans. But during lockdown, groups hosted their first-ever online meetings. Get first person insight what it's like from Zoe, a first-time Greenpeace volunteer from Dundee, and Jess, a returning volunteer in south London, who have shared their stories.

You too can get involved with your Greenpeace local group and check out the lovely stop motion animation about the ocean that a local group in Sweden Gothenburg created. [link removed]

In the world's first 'Coronavirus elections', South Korea voted for climate action: [link removed]

In the first national elections in the time of Covid-19, South Korea's Democratic Party won in a landslide - after putting forward a bold Green New Deal plan in their manifesto. The ruling Democratic Party announced plans for a Green New Deal - with the core goal of making South Korea a carbon-neutral country by 2050. They won with a landslide.

In this massive win for people and the planet, South Korea became the first country in East Asia to announce such a comprehensive climate policy. For one of the world's largest coal investors and with a huge manufacturing industry, this is a major shift.

Together we can protect both people and the planet: [link removed]

If you're asking 'how do you protect both people and the planet at a time when the world feels like it's been turned upside down?' The answer is: you do it all at once. So far more than 150,000 people have signed the petition calling on the UK government to invest in a new sustainable economy that puts people first, and protects the planet we all depend on. It just takes a minute to add your name.

We need to come out of COVID-19 stronger, together: [link removed]

This health crisis will show us plenty of lessons for addressing the chronic climate emergency. Choices we make today will shape our society, economy, health, and climate for decades to come. We need to come out of COVID-19 stronger, together.

And one aspect you're already helping us with is ensuring the chancellor knows we don't want to see blank cheques for polluting airlines. Airlines are currently demanding bailouts without anything in return. No promises to clean up their businesses or protect the climate. No commitments to put their employees before shareholders and bonuses. Tell the government: no bailouts unless airlines clean up their act: [link removed]

Changing our cities for the better: [link removed]

Social distancing has forced cities to rethink their streets, turning car-dominated spaces over to walking and biking. When they see the difference it makes, they might never turn back. For our streets to work well in the age of coronavirus, there are two main things you need: more space to walk, and more space to safely ride a bike.

Lockdown is showing how our car-jammed streets and polluted air can change for the better. Find out how in our blog.

I hope all I have shared with you helps keep you connected and gives you some solace in this time. As always, we want to keep in touch with all our supporters; whether you have a question about Greenpeace's work or your support, we're all still here to help to keep us connected. My team is available to call on 0330 335 3632 Monday - Friday, 9am - 5.30pm, or feel free to email any questions you may have to [email protected].

From all of us at Greenpeace, we wish you the very best and hope you are safe and well.
