Dear John,
It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting for our conservative values.
Voters deserve full faith and confidence in our elections. Anything that undermines election integrity should be met with swift consequences and full transparency. In Hubbard County, election judge Timothy Michael Scouton allegedly allowed unregistered votes to be counted on election night. Thanks to a dedicated election auditor in the county, he is now facing felony charges. In Scott County, election officials cannot find 20 ballots from one precinct! It’s not acceptable to disenfranchise 20 voters, but in this case, the difference in the legislative race is only 14 votes. It’s why I joined my Minnesota colleagues in a letter to the Secretary of State to have a plan if those 20 ballots are not found. I have always taken measures to protect secure elections by supporting Voter ID, proof of U.S. citizenship before registering to vote, and provisional ballots. I will continue to support legislation that makes it easy to vote and hard to cheat so all lawful votes are counted quickly and accurately.
Biofuels are integral to western Minnesota’s economy. The Democrats made changes to biofuel tax credits in 2022 without any Republican input. These changes have left farmers and producers facing unworkable rules and tight timelines, hampering production. As a Vice Chair of the Rural America Tax Team and a member of the Supply Chains Tax Team, I’m working with my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to make sure rural voices are heard. We’ve invited biofuel producers, farmers, and stakeholders to share their input so we can fix these policies, support local energy production, and boost economic growth in our communities. Rural America deserves a seat at the table, and I’m committed to giving them that opportunity.
On a lighter note, the people have spoken! No, I’m not talking about elections, but about our Thanksgiving side-dish poll! With more than 40% of the votes, stuffing was the clear choice as voters’ favorite side. Mashed/sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and green bean casserole filled out the pecking order. Finally, our team’s favorite open-ended response was… venison!
As always, please contact my office if you have any questions about my record or my votes, or if there is anything we can help with. Thank you for your continued support!
