Your support in action: GLAAD brings expert voices to fight for fair reporting

GLAAD’s News and Rapid Response team recently led two impactful briefings for reporters, focusing on advancing accurate and empathetic reporting on transgender issues. In one briefing, GLAAD convened experts from the ACLU, Lambda Legal, and The Fenway Institute, alongside a parent-turned-advocate and their 21-year-old transgender child, Kai, to discuss U.S. v Skrmetti, a case challenging Tennessee’s ban on essential health care for transgender youth.

In the other briefing, GLAAD engaged leaders in Alabama’s AL.com newsroom for the first time, inviting transgender high school senior Harleigh Walker and her father, Jeff, to share their personal experiences, including Harleigh’s testimony against a proposed health care ban. These efforts, made possible by supporters like you, help ensure reporters and advocates are equipped to drive meaningful change and foster LGBTQ acceptance through accurate and inclusive reporting.

Save the date for World AIDS Day 2024, coming up on Sunday, December 1st. More than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS related illnesses over the past 40 years, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history. Today, an estimated 38 million people live with HIV around the globe, so access to healthcare is critical. As we know from guidance from the World Health Organization, people living with HIV who achieve undetectable levels of the virus have zero risk of transmission. GLAAD, in partnership with The Black List, announced ten outstanding scripts for the fourth edition of The GLAAD List, showcasing authentic LGBTQ storytelling that meets GLAAD’s high standards for accurate representation. These stories create opportunities for LGBTQ creators to share their lived experiences, harnessing the power of entertainment media – a leading driver of acceptance – to foster understanding of the LGBTQ community and drive acceptance. Meet the LGBTQ candidates who prevailed despite 2024 election setbacks

Following the results of the 2024 election, GLAAD celebrated all of the nation’s pro-equality wins. A number of transgender and nonbinary candidates won their races including Sarah McBride of Delaware, becoming the first openly transgender member of the U.S. Congress.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the first out person elected to the U.S. Senate and Wisconsin’s first female senator, was also re-elected.
