Governor Walz Marks Milestone in Minnesota's Clean Energy Transition

Governor Walz speaks at Sherco Solar site
On Tuesday, Governor Walz joined Xcel Energy leadership in Sherburne County to mark the completion of the first phase of the largest solar project in the Upper Midwest and celebrate Minnesota’s progress in transitioning to clean energy.
Once fully complete in 2026, the 710-megawatt project will generate enough low-cost, carbon-free electricity to power 150,000 homes. The project moves the state closer to meeting its goal of transitioning to 100 percent clean energy by 2040.
*"We marked a major milestone in Minnesota's clean energy transition today. The Sherco Solar Project will deliver carbon-free, low-cost power to 150,000 homes - all while creating good-paying jobs," *said Governor Walz.* "We're building a strong economy for the future right here in Minnesota."*

Governor Walz Announces Minnesota One of Two States Recognized for Data-Driven, Evidence-Based Policymaking

On Thursday, Governor Walz announced that Minnesota was recognized by Results for America as a national leader in using evidence and data to guide decision-making and deliver better results for Minnesotans. Minnesota is one of only two states to receive Platinum Certification, the highest honor possible for evidence-based decision making.

Whether it’s investments like universal school meals, funding for child care, or tax cuts for the middle class, I am proud that Minnesota has once again been recognized for our commitment to using evidence and data to make the biggest impact in improving peoples’ lives,"* said Governor Walz. *"**By using data and evidence to drive decision making, we get real results."*

Governor Walz greets students on the first day of school
Last week, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that SmileHub has ranked Minnesota as a top state for children. The scorecard ranked states across four areas: health and wellness, support system strength, education system, and family and working life.
