Texas approves new Bible-based curriculum for elementary schools
In a brazen violation of the First Amendment, the Texas Board of Education voted 8-7 in favor of state-sponsored religion on Friday to approve a new Bible-based curriculum in elementary schools called "Bluebonnet Learning." Teachers will have a choice to opt into the new faith-based learning curriculum, but the state is offering a financial incentive of $60 a student for participating school districts. Parents, teachers, and rights groups expressed outrage at the move that clearly violates the US Constitution and will definitely alienate students and teachers of other faiths. We are two clicks shy of The Handmaid's Tale, folks.

Trump’s "border czar" pick has been auditioning for the role on extremist media platforms
The man President-elect Donald Trump would go on to tap as his “border czar” spent the last several years making appearances on some of the most extreme right-wing media outlets in the country — including a program hosted by an Adolf Hitler-admiring QAnon conspiracist — and promising to implement a brutal regime of mass deportations if Trump returns to the White House. Tom Homan will have that opportunity in January, when Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president. Homan has been auditioning for a high-profile Trump White House role in parts of the right-wing establishment — notably, as a Fox News commentator and as a fellow at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. He was among the authors of Project 2025, Heritage’s authoritarian blueprint for a second Trump administration. But Homan has also been a fixture in the fever swamps of far-right media, lending the imprimatur of his resumé to white nationalist, anti-Muslim, and QAnon figures. These appearances and interviews, some of which have gone unreported in the mainstream press (shocking!), indicate Homan is prepared to go to extreme lengths to stem the “invasion,” as he puts it, of the country by immigrants.

BTC leads collective of progressive creators with plan to take back the internet from Joe Rogan and the right-wing machine
Chorus: This election has made it painfully clear that Democrats' messages are just not getting through the tsunami of right-wing propaganda and lies flooding through social media, and we have no real answer to a Joe Rogan or a Ben Shapiro...until now! Chorus Collective is a new collaborative founded by creators like Brian Tyler Cohen, Leigh McGowan (Politics Girl), Roland Martin, David Pakman, Elizabeth Booker Houston, and Adam Mockler, who are bringing their audience of 40 million people together to create a new infrastructure to scale their voices and build support for more creators like them. Chorus aims to not only amplify progressive voices but also uplift new creators and build a left-wing social media ecosystem that supports its voices ALL the time, not just in the months leading up to an election. Will you chip in to help Chorus get off the ground and help break the right-wing stranglehold on social media?

Trump gave Interior nominee one directive for a half-billion acres of US land: "Drill"
The MAGA cult leader assigned Doug Burgum a singular mission in nominating the governor of oil-rich North Dakota to lead an agency that oversees a half-billion acres of federal land and vast areas offshore: “Drill baby drill.” That dictate from the president-elect’s announcement of Burgum for Secretary of Interior sets the stage for a reignition of the court battles over public lands and waters that helped define Trump’s first term, with environmentalists worried about climate change already pledging their opposition.

Police in Independence, Missouri, slaughter mother and 2-month old infant in botched domestic dispute call
When Talisa Coombs called the police to report a domestic dispute, she had no idea she'd be signing her granddaughter's death warrant. Police burst into the building with guns drawn and ended up shooting two-month-old Destiny in the head before killing her mother, who they later tried to claim was armed with a knife while also holding her baby — as if that somehow justifies shooting a baby. Police chief Adam Dustman told the media that the mother, Maria Pike, was “armed” — a claim directly contradicted by eyewitnesses and unsubstantiated by any evidence — but was somehow unable to confirm whether or not his officers had shot a baby. To make matters worse, not only did the cops raid the home before allowing the mental health co-responders who had been dispatched to engage, but Chief Dustman openly admitted to restraining the mental health responders from engaging, saying it would not be appropriate for this situation. Someone please make it make sense.
