Amid Israel’s relentless bombings and invasions of Gaza, more than 22,500 Palestinians in Gaza now face life-changing injuries. It is extremely difficult for many to escape when evacuation orders come. AFSC’s Yousef Aljamal and Serena Awad have spoken with the families of several Palestinians—children and adults—with disabilities in Gaza. “I have heard so many stories of family members risking their lives to care for one another,” Yousef writes. “Their courage should motivate us all to continue our struggle to bring to an end this horrific genocide.”  Read more in Al Jazeera.

Every year, our social work team helps over 100 individuals and their families get access to food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities. Stopping excessive force in California prisons and jails

In California, AFSC has documented the use of militarized weapons against people in prisons and jails. Over just three years, prison staff used rubber bullets, pepper spray, and other kinds of force over 22,000 times against incarcerated people in the state. Now AFSC is working with activists across California to advocate to stop this state violence. In Alameda County, our collective efforts move the county to reduce the number and use of some weapons, while we continue to call for eliminating them entirely. Read more.
