Dear John,
We are so happy to share the news that the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation announced today that they are rejecting the 401 Water Quality permit for the Williams NESE pipeline. This was a flat out denial, which means Williams cannot reapply. We did it!
This is a huge grassroots victory for the climate movement, and all because of the thousands of us who called, petitioned, spoke out and marched in this fight. 350Brooklyn members came through time and time again in this fight—you are awesome! And all of us at 350Brooklyn are deeply grateful to our coalition partners who stood together so strongly over these past three years.
New Yorkers have submitted tens of thousands of public comments and petition signatures calling on Governor Cuomo to stop this fracked gas disaster. We held dozens of protests and hundreds of us marched across the Brooklyn Bridge.
We did everything we could to protect our communities and together we stopped the Williams Pipeline!
We suspect Williams will file a lawsuit to have this decision overturned and we know that if National Grid doesn't get their way with the pipeline, they’ll push to expand their Greenpoint LNG facility and other fracked gas infrastructure.
So we still need to be vigilant and show up for other communities fighting fracked gas, but for now take this moment to look at all we’ve accomplished, all the power we've built and let’s celebrate!
Join us for a happy hour victory celebration tomorrow night at 5pm. Here’s the link to join:
