Hi John, it's Sarah, VP of State and Local Campaigns at EMILYs List, writing to you about a big race in North Carolina.
We're thrilled that Justice Allison Riggs won her race for the North Carolina Supreme Court!
Our courts directly impact the strength of our democracy, our access to reproductive health care, and our children's access to public education, and we're so grateful to the North Carolinians who made this victory possible.
Justice Riggs' race isn't quite over yet, though. We owe it to voters to ensure that every vote is counted — which is why a recount is currently underway in North Carolina.
Recounts are a normal electoral process that allow for transparency and promote public confidence in our electoral systems. Based on what we're seeing so far, we expect that this recount will continue to proceed smoothly, confirm Justice Riggs' win, and affirm the great work done by North Carolina state election officials.
But her opponent has already filed over 300 protests to try and throw out 60,000 ballots. John, we won't be fooled by this blatant attempt to disenfranchise voters.
This work is expensive, and the Riggs team needs resources to fight these costly legal battles. If you're able, will you split a donation between EMILYs List and Justice Riggs' team to help see this process through and defend this critical pro-choice win?
