Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

It was a busy and beautiful week in the Great Ward 8. On Monday, we kicked off Go-Go Preservation Week at the iconic new Go-Go Museum and Cafe. Washington, DC is home to dozens of fantastic museums, but until this week, one was missing. The Go-Go Museum & Cafe will give residents and visitors the chance to experience DC history and culture, and we can't wait to celebrate its grand opening to the public in February 2025.

Go Go Museum

On Thursday, we were back to celebrate more history and to keep a promise. As a city, we made Barry Farm residents a promise under our New Communities Initiative that we would welcome residents back into fantastic, safe, and affordable housing that honors and preserves the rich legacy of the community. And this week, we cut the ribbon on The Asberry, a 108-unit mixed-use building and the first on-site building delivered at Barry Farm. Then, immediately after, we broke ground on The Edmonson, a 139-unit affordable mixed-use property and the second new construction building on site.

The Asberry

Tomorrow, residents from all eight wards will come together at the Marion S. Barry Jr. Building to unveil new murals honoring Mayor Barry's life and marking 10 years since his passing. Mr. Barry taught us the importance of having a big vision and this week, I'm grateful for all the people who are working with us to keep his vision alive.

Sincerely,

Muriel BowserDowntown DC Holiday Market
