Team,
Like you, I have been trying to digest all the results of the election. Some were heartbreaking. Some were hope-bringing.
The reality is, Ohio could not defy the national political gravity. But Sherrod Brown ran nearly 3 points ahead of the national ticket . This loss hurts, but as Senator Brown says “It will never be wrong to fight for working people.”
There are some silver linings to take away from this election:
Thanks to you, all five of our incumbent House representatives won reelection. Ohioans spoke loud and clear and reelected Reps Joyce Beatty, Greg Landsman, Emilia Sykes, Shontel Brown, and Marcy Kaptur.
I am finding comfort in knowing that Ohio reelected true champions for our communities with unwavering dedication to fighting for equality, opportunity, and progress for all.
We also gained four seats in the state legislature, five seats on the state board of education, flipped two County Council Districts in Northeast Ohio, and elected a Democratic Hamilton County Prosecutor for the first time in 92 years. These are no small feats.
Plus, the activism of Ohioans this year reached levels we haven’t seen in over a decade. 38,931 volunteers knocked on 2.8 million doors and made 7.8 million phone calls. These numbers don’t even begin to include the many who sent postcards, put up yard signs, donated a few bucks, and helped our candidates in so many other ways.
Thank you for joining us in this fight for our country and for the state of Ohio.
There’s a lot of work to do in the months ahead and there are lessons to learn from this election, but we won’t stop fighting for the representation Ohioans deserve and we hope you’ll join us.
Thank you for everything,
Liz Walters, ODP Chair
