New Democrat Coalition Members and Members-Elect selected Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) as the New Dem Chair for the 119th Congress. Additionally, Rep. Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) will serve as Vice Chair for Policy, Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) will serve as Vice Chair for Outreach, Rep. Josh Harder (CA-09) will serve as Vice Chair for Member Services, and Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33) will serve as Vice Chair for Communications.

In addition, by unanimous vote, the Coalition inducted 23 Members-elect to join the Coalition in the 119th Congress, one of the largest freshman classes in Coalition history. Members-elect voted unanimously for Representative-Elect Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) to serve as the Freshman Leadership Representative.

Each elected Member of New Dem Leadership brings diverse experiences, expertise, and perspective, and will be instrumental as the Coalition prepares to hold the House Republican Leadership accountable and break through partisan gridlock whenever possible in the 119th Congress.

New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) issued a statement following the House Democratic Caucus Elections, where lawmakers re-elected Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), Whip Katherine Clark (MA-05), and Caucus Chairman and New Dem Member Pete Aguilar (CA-33) to lead the Caucus in the 119th Congress.

New Dems were elected to prominent positions across House Democratic Leadership. Rep. Susie Lee was elected as Battleground Leadership Representative by returning Frontline Members and incoming Red-to-Blue Members to serve as their voice in House Leadership. Additionally Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03) was re-elected as Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair.

Today, upon returning from the COP 29 summit in Azerbaijan over the weekend, New Democrat Coalition Climate Change and Clean Energy Task Force Chair Scott Peters (CA-50) issued a statement on the New Dems’ commitment to meeting our climate goals and to working to prevent the next Administration from reversing the progress we’ve made.

Rep. Bera Introduces Bipartisan Global Alzheimer’s Initiative Now (GAIN) Act

introduced the bipartisan Global Alzheimer’s Initiative Now (GAIN) Act (H.R. 10175). This bill positions the U.S. as a leader in addressing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia through global cooperation, authorizing U.S. participation in the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative (DAC). This public–private–patient partnership is transforming research, prevention, and care worldwide.

Larsen and Kim: U.S. Involvement in NATO Innovation Fund Will Strengthen NATO Defense and Security
Congressman Rick Larsen (WA-02) and Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) introduced a bill (H.R. 10185) authorizing the United States to participate in and contribute up to $200 million over 10 years to the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF), which plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and collaboration across the alliance to strengthen NATO defense and security and enhance resilience against strategic competitors. Larsen and Kim supported a similar provision in the House-passed Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Lee’s Bipartisan Bill to Speed Up Housing, Infrastructure, and Conservation Projects Passes Out of Senate Committee
Congresswoman Susie Lee’s (NV-03) bipartisan Accelerating Appraisals and Conservation Efforts (AACE) Act (H.R. 5443) to speed up federal land transactions passed the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. It previously passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support and now takes one step closer to being signed into law.

Brownley Statement on House Passage of the Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act
Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) applauded House passage of the Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (H.R. 8371), a transformational bill which included two bills she authored to improve and expand home- and community-based services for disabled or aging veterans, their families, and their caregivers. Brownley's bills in the comprehensive package (1) provide for the single largest expansion of long-term care services at VA in decades and will impact nearly every veteran living with catastrophic disabilities or living with the effects of aging and (2) create a new pilot program to expand dental care to veterans diagnosed with diabetes and heart disease.

Rep. Bera's Bipartisan North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act Passes House
Congressman Ami Bera's (CA-06) North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3012) passed the House by a vote of 335-37. As Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, Rep. Bera co-led this bipartisan legislation to strengthen America's commitment to holding the Kim regime accountable for their ongoing human rights abuses.
Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) announced a new $60,400,000 grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support the City of Ventura’s large scale water recycling program VenturaWaterPure.

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced $520,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program to make roads safer for pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists in Macomb and Sterling. This funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to fund regional and local initiatives that prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries through modernizing infrastructure, installing safety measures to protect pedestrians and cyclists, and conducting assessments of high traffic roads and intersections.
