Hi John,

All the big political brains say nobody cares about deficits and this is your chance to prove them wrong.

When you ask political strategists why governments aren’t worried about running deficits, they shrug and answer: “Voters don’t care.”

Do you think those political strategists are right? This is your chance to prove them wrong.

Interest charges on the federal debt cost you a billion dollars every week.

Think about what that means for you.

Federal interest charges cost you $100 every month if you break down your per capita share of the bill.

Or you can think about it this way.

Every penny you pay in federal sales tax goes to paying interest on the debt.

You already get it, so this is like preaching to the choir. But we can’t just blame other people on this. We all need to take action if we want the government to stop wasting money on debt interest charges.

Here’s something shocking: the petition to fight back against federal debt isn’t even in the top 10 of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation’ biggest petitions.

So here’s the BIG goal: let’s get 100,000 signatures on the petition to balance the budget and stop running up debt and interest charges.

Here’s the reason for you to sign the PETITION: when you do, you’ll be the first to know when you have a chance to push the government to cut wasteful spending, balance the budget and stop the debt binge. The next budget is right around the corner so this is the perfect time for you to sign the petition.

Will you sign the petition?

We, the undersigned, call on the federal government to stop racking up debt.
* YES – I’ll sign the petition (just click this link to automatically add your name) ([link removed] > 1|*true&status2=

* No – I’m not ready to sign the petition today (if you’d like to tell us why, click here ([link removed]) )

Note: If the automatic link isn’t working on your device, you can also sign the petition on our secure website: [link removed] ([link removed] > 1|*true&status2=

Thanks for standing up to politicians who want to weigh your kids and grandkids down with debt.

This will be a long, hard fight, but we can win it together.

Have a good one,

Todd MacKay
Vice-President of Communications
Canadian Taxpayers Federation

P.S.: One more fact: Ottawa spends more on interest charges than it sends to the provinces for health care. That has to change. You can join the fight to change that by signing the PETITION: [link removed] ([link removed] > 1|*true&status2=
