The Minnesota STAR Program [ [link removed] ] and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) [ [link removed] ] are collaborating on an exciting initiative to support schools in selecting and implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Together, we are developing AAC kits designed for short-term loans to help IEP teams trial low- to mid-tech AAC tools with infants, toddlers, and youth. We are also collaborating on the development of an AAC Academy with resources focused on implementing / using AAC tools with students from birth through high school graduation.

Today we are reaching out to professionals who work with children and youth who could benefit from or currently use low- to mid-tech AAC to complete a brief survey. Your input will be invaluable in determining which tools and resources are included in the AAC Consideration Kits.

*About the AAC Kits:*


* *Purpose:* To assist IEP team members with the assistive technology consideration process, specifically focusing on low- to mid-tech AAC tools.
* *Borrowing Process:* Kits will be available for school staff to borrow for approximately 45 days.
* *Access Focus:* These kits are especially intended to support education staff to trial and explore low to mid-tech AAC alternatives.
* *Kit Value:* Each kit will include a range of tools valued at up to $3,000.

Your expertise and perspective will help ensure these kits meet the needs of educators and the children they serve.
