In case you missed it, The Philadelphia Inquirer spotlighted Councilmember Rue Landau’s proactive leadership in safeguarding Philadelphia’s vulnerable communities ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term.

During Trump’s first presidency, we witnessed relentless attacks on civil rights—a trend that is likely to intensify. That’s why Councilmember Landau is stepping up by proposing a hearing in City Hall, or as she put it a “Trump Preparedness Summit.” This public hearing will bring together city officials, advocates, and community leaders to ensure that Philadelphia is ready to protect its immigrant, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized communities.

As Councilmember Landau stated:
“The fear is real, it’s palpable, and we need to have the conversation now, publicly, so that we can let people know that they are as safe as they can possibly be in Philadelphia and also know that the city is ready to protect all of our communities and protect all of Philadelphians equally.”

These hearings are just one part of Rue’s commitment to civil rights. This week, she also introduced a resolution to honor Transgender Day of Remembrance, honoring Trans people who have been harmed by violence and discrimination.
Philadelphia has always stood as a city of hope and inclusion, and Councilmember Landau will help uphold these values, no matter the challenges ahead.
